Promon Engenharia is participating in the design and construction of the Pampa Sul Thermal Power Plant

Coal plant is important for Brazil´s energy sector and, principally for the South of the Country, since it raises the degree of reliability of the system, reduces the risk of a power shortage, as well as the need to import energy from other regions.

Promon Engenharia has added yet another venture of major importance for Brazil´s energy sector to its portfolio: the Pampa Sul Thermal Power Plant, located in Candiota, Rio Grande do Sul, the end customer of which is ENGIE and the EPC contractee is SDEPCI, the company that hired Promon.

Promon’s successful relationship with SDEPCI goes back to its contracts with Vale, such as the Barcarena TPP and the Setentrional TPP, performed between 2006 and 2009. This relationship was resumed with the Pampa Sul TPP, starting with a consultancy to adapt the basic and executive designs to Brazilian construction standards and practices. This first service opened the doors to new opportunities such as the introduction of all the processes of civil construction management, as well as preparation of the civil executive design, consulting activities performed in Brazil and China, and environmental management of the venture, for which Promon Engenharia’s partner company, Brandt Meio Ambiente, was hired.

In the month of August, 2016, construction completed one year, considering the first earth-moving activities which were begun in the middle of last year. Important stages in civil works have been accomplished, among which are the first concrete casting of the boiler foundations, completion of the boiler foundations and conclusion of the stack foundations.

The Pampa Sul TPP is a major work, important for the State of Rio Grande do Sul and for Brazil, and for various reasons, complex from the point of view of civil construction management and site grading. However, Promon Engenharia mobilized a highly experienced management team which, working together with SDEPCI’s management team, overcame many obstacles, managed to meet the first milestones of the project schedule and made space for the start of electromechanical erection. Our team began its management activities even before the land had been released for earth works”, recalls Ricardo Lorenz Barbosa, Manager of Promon Engenharia Civil Construction.
